Founded in 1982, TranSafety, Inc. is an independent source for publications and
information on road transportation and safety. For sixteen years, TranSafety's
newsletters have reached subscribers across the United States and around the world.
Engineers, maintenance personnel, legal professionals, and others interested in roadway
design, maintenance, and safety read these newsletters to keep up-to-date on the latest
developments in their areas. TranSafety also publishes technical documents on such
subjects as edge dropoffs and work zone safety. In addition, TranSafety offers
consulting, expert witness, and research services for highway and legal professionals.
U.S. Roads is the publishing division of TranSafety. The U.S.
Roads website offers two journals and hundreds of archived articles about road management, engineering, and injury litigation.
The president of TranSafety, Inc., Roy W. Anderson, P.E., is a nationally known
consultant and expert witness in the areas of highway design, construction, operations,
and safety. Mr. Anderson holds licenses as a professional civil and traffic engineer. He
has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Texas Tech University, an M.S. in Engineering from
the University of California at Berkeley, and a Certificate for Multidisciplinary Highway
Collision Investigation Training from the University of Southern California. As a member
of a Transportation Research Board study committee, Roy Anderson helped develop
"Designing Safer Roads--Practices for Resurfacing, Restoration, and Rehabilitation." He
co-authored sections of the national standard for work zones published in the Manual on Uniform
Traffic Control Devices.
Before establishing his own training, publishing, and consulting firm, Mr.
Anderson was a traffic engineer and accident investigator at the National Transportation
Safety Board (NTSB), the nation's watchdog for transportation safety. His contributions
to highway safety earned him that agency's Special Achievement Award. Prior to joining
NTSB, he served as a traffic safety and field construction engineer with the California
Department of Transportation.
Currently Mr. Anderson is a member of the Association for the Advancement of
Automotive Medicine, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Society of Automotive
Engineers, Inc., the National Association of Professional Accident Reconstruction
Specialists, Inc., the Transportation Research Board, and the Washington State
Department of Transportation's Standing Committee for the Safety Management System.
Laura J. Anderson is TranSafety's secretary-treasurer and one of the organization's researchers and editors. She grew up in Florence, Colorado, and she graduated from Colorado State University with a B.S. in vocational education. Laura married Roy Anderson in 1956, and they lived in West Texas. Laura taught home economics in Texas until she decided to become a full-time homemaker and devote her time to raising three sons. The Anderson family moved to the San Francisco Bay area in 1961. There Laura attended California State University at Hayward and obtained elementary teacher certification. She also did graduate work at the University of California-Berkeley. Laura resumed her career in education as an elementary classroom teacher in Fairfax County, Virginia. While teaching, she continued her graduate studies at the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech. and George Mason University. In addition to her classroom duties, Laura supervised student teachers, wrote curriculum, and served as a part-time consulting teacher. Retiring from the Fairfax County Public Schools after 25 years of service, Laura moved with her husband to Sequim, Washington. She is currently a vice-president of the local chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma (an honorary society of women educators) and belongs to the Clallam County Genealogy Society and the Clallam County Historical Society. In addition, she is a member of the American Society of English Handbell Ringers and performs with the North Olympic Handbell Ringers.
Dean Anderson is TranSafety's webmaster and computer consultant; he is in charge of maintaining the USroads.com website.
He has attended Peninsula Community College and has
been working with computers since 1982. Dean does hardware and software installation
and troubleshooting and has extensive experience with Microsoft Windows operating systems, MS-DOS,
HTML, desktop publishing, and office management. Before joining TranSafety's staff, he
worked as a correctional officer and as a reserve deputy sheriff. Dean has also provided
computer support to a variety of offices, including a book shop, a retail computer store,
and several departments in the Clallam County Courthouse. He is currently working with Department of Health & Human Services, providing IT support, web site design, and general administrative support.
Dean's range of interests include health, science fiction, and games, and he enjoys outdoor barbeques, camping, and clamming.
